blasted martha stewart

why is it that whenever I end up getting a martha stewart idea in my head and spend hours upon hours on it, it always ends up looking like, well Picasso instead of Martha. Yesterdays example: lamby cupcakes. I loved my friend Garnet's lamby cupcake she made for Isaac's 1st bday, so decided to try something similar out. After my first attempt (I swear I am looking at this picture myself and laughing my head off it's so incredibly grotesque!):
