Garden Update

I haven't posted a garden update for a while. This first year is definitely a learning year with the garden. Some of the stuff and how I planted it just isn't working at all -- and yet a bunch of other stuff is just growing like crazy. All of my squashes are in love with the soil mix we used. I already have zucchini growing out of my ears (so I bought this cute little recipe book). That garden box is all basically as tall as Stina. My peas were ok this year - not very many of them though. I have a feeling I'll be inundated by pumpkins and tomatoes. And I learned I planted too much lettuce (more than my family eats). The biggest problem is knowing when to harvest things and how. I let my broccoli go for too long and it just turned into flowers. I never knew all that green stuff you eat would turn into flowers - kinda cool. Just things I guess I'll learn more as I go.

  2. I'm so proud of all your hard work in your garden! You will have to teach me all you know when SOMEDAY I have my own garden. Sounds like education week is just what I need as well. Another someday, I hope!

  3. Yeah! The garden looks awesome. Mine is FINALLY starting to come in too. But it's way behind this year. You'lll have to share some of your zuchinni recipes when you try them out. The one good thing I learned last year is that you can freeze zukes. Just chop them up or grate them (however you would normally used them) and then put them in freezer bags. And ta da! You've got zuchinni all year long. I totally used them all winter in soups and sauces ... and of course bread. Yum!

  4. Ah, so jealous! I LOVE all of those garden veggies, especially zuchini and tomatoes. You can make zucchini bread as great gifts.
