TotD - Ether 7

Ether Ch7

v13. And Corihor repented of the many evils which he had done; wherefore Shule gave him power in his kingdom.

It just hit me that this is one of the greatest examples of forgiveness in the scriptures. Corihor was Shule's half-brother and had imprisoned their father, Kib, for many many years so Corihor could be king in his father's stead. Shule overthrew Corihor and Kib granted the kingdome to Shule. How many families are struggling because they can't forgive over much slighter offenses?

v27. And there were no more wars in the days of Shule; and he remembered the great things that the Lord had done for his fathers in bringing them across the great deep into the promised land; wherefore he did execute judgment in righteousness all his days.

At EdWeek Kevin Hinckley spoke about teaching your young children (about age 9-12) Church History and Family History so they can understand they are linked to their ancestors (whether grandpa joe or Joseph Smith or Abraham) and the covenants made back then. We need to do this before their brains fall out when they turn 13. It made me think about the importance of Church History. Back in 2002 in Rexburg Elder Wirthlin came for a devotional. Everyone was SO pumped, we're all dressed in church clothes all day; we're expecting some great revelation and applicable counsel for us college kids . . . So he gets up and the whole time he talks about . . . . The Nauvoo Temple. I think 90% of students slept through the whole thing. I think I've only just began to realize how important that address was. There is a reason the Church pours so much $ into preserving all those historical sites. Like Bro. Hinckley said it's to turn our hearts to our fathers. So I've made a decision instead of Disney World, Ellie's going to start getting a tour of Church sites when she turns 8.

  1. I love these new posts! It's so great to take a few absic scriptures and search for the meaning behind them. I was reading a book that had this very same message! To search the scriptures and truly PONDER them, to ask who? what? where? when? why? with every verse and we would obtain so much more knowledge. Way to go Kris! :)
