who are all you people??!?!

So I decided to do a historical summary of hits to my blog since I changed it to "andersontopia". As you can see last year my hits were pretty low . . . and then this year when I went public it just kind of exploded. Seriously I had over 900 IP addresses access this blog last month (back when it was private I averaged about 200 IP addresses). So . . . this begs the question -- public or private? I would love to hear your thoughts on why you are either one and try to sway me either way.

  1. That is weird. Where did you get a graph like this? That is a lot of people visiting your site in a month. Do you have sitemeter? If you don't go to mine and scroll all the way down until you find sitemeter. It gives you email address and I think a map (not sure about the map) of all the people that visit.

  2. I'm a private person- I don't really care how many people come or go- I do it for the ones that want to keep up with my family. - Which is mainly, well, my family (extended)- And close friends. Plus- there are so many weirdos out there, I'm really kinda paraniod when I think about the internet- it can ba a scary place. There's information about my kids on the blog (like a picture of Clinton in front of the school he goes to)- and who knows what people are 'hitting' on your blog to look at. - Like I said, probably paranoid, but I think better safe than sorry with my kids. ;)

  3. PS- do you think it's because of your name change? I wonder why...

  5. We're public. I don't think we blog anything too sensitive that would cause a problem. Besides, when you have grandparents, they can't always find their way in the private blog setup.

  6. Holy COW! You ARE popular! I don't have nearly the traffic that you do, but I'm having some issues with this also. Having a public blog, it's so much easier to access for my friends and I'm finding that they check it and comment a lot more often. But I'm still getting a lot more hits than I have friends ... so it makes me wonder who is looking and why ... What to do ... what to do ... So good luck and if you come up with a good solution let me know :)

  7. I went public because I had friends and family who were having a hard time getting on when I was private. I have a FeedJit Traffic Feed at the very bottom of my page that way I can tell who is looking at our blog. Good luck!

  8. I like being public so that it's easier for family to get on and everything, plus it's nice to see old friends find me because I've commented on mutual friends' blogs. Plus, I don't think either of us have any sensitive stuff on there that would jeopardize our family's safety. So there's my two cents. How did you find out how many people were on your blog?

  9. I have struggled with this decision myself. My blog is public right now because I want it to be easy for family and friends to find us, especially since my bog is so new. My blog doesn't get very much traffic yet, I'm not sure if that's becuase my bog is too boring or if it's because it is so new. Time will tell. I may need to switch to private at some point, but i'd like to keep it public as long as possible.
