How to Be a Girly Girl 101

I don't know why I'm writing this post -- in reality I should be the one taking this class. But last night a Miller Tradition continued with the men going to priesthood meeting and on the way home going out for ice cream. Since this brought all kinds of whiny appeals about the unfairness of life and their lack of ice-cream going from the girls, I determined that a new Miller Tradition should be started -- Conference Night Girl Party. Me, as the tomboy of nearly all tomboys, was in charge and was left to try to figure out what the heck to do. I didn't have to wonder long, the girls were full of suggestions: nail polish, hair, makeovers, pjs, girl movies, dancing, etc. Ok, Ok, that was enough for me to go on. I busted out my polish I hadn't used in months and the hair curlers I hadn't used in years, grabbed some old mary kay samples someone had given me, changed into pjs and I was read' to go. I think my success hung on the movie choice. I had three girls ages 1 through 9. I couldn't just be a kids movie, that really doesn't make a girls night. It had to be a show that you could never get a boy to watch. Enter Ella Enchanted. Gotta love a good Anne Hathaway show. Anyway, I hereby declare the first semi-annual Miller Girl's Night a success! The sad, horrible, nightmarish byproduct of the night was the realization that my daughter is, indeed, a girly girl. She practically forced me to paint all of her nails after watching me paint Kortnie's. And she pushed Hailey off my lap and jumped in her place during the makeup phase -- complete with her closing her eyes and sticking out her lips sitting there waiting for me to put eyeshadow and lipstick on. So ellie had a lot of firsts last night. First nail polish. Eyeshadow. Lipstick. And momma had her first real-life moment of parenting a true girly girl -- all of my aspirations of her wearing a ponytail her whole life, playing bball, and kicking boys where it counts whenever they talk to her were flushed down the drain. I struggle with the stark reality last night gave me a glimpse of, and for me it's wasn't pretty :-(.
