Ed Week

I thought I'd post one more blog and just mention some of the things I learned from EdWeek. I went to a pretty good mix of classes -- doctrinal, how-to, and whatever lies in the middle. I was lucky enough to be taught by Marvin Goldstein, Bruce R. McConkie's son (I forget his name), Bro. Satterfield, Kevin Hinckley, Merilee Boyack, Scott Anderson, and Doug Brinley. There were a few more in there but those are the most memorable--one thing I learned is that everyone has a different learning personality. A lot of the times it splits along gender lines (guys filling the classes of McConkie, Millet, etc.) and girls filling up the sappy ones (Anderson, etc.). Not that there's anything wrong with that but it was interesting for me to go and see which teacher fit my learning style. I learned alot in my parenting classes, my doctrine ones (especially about the gathering of Israel -- I have been so right all along, it's not about location, people :-), and the time management kind of classes. The result was me coming home a better person. My favorite peice of advice I got the whole time was that if you're life is too hectic and you're overwhelmed and it's not what you want your life to be, it's your own fault. Envision the life you want and then only make choices that will lead you there -- so if someone asks you to do something and it doesn't line up with your vision say "I'm sorry I would love to, but I have an appointment or prior committment". (sometimes you gotta adjust your vision if it's the Lord asking you :-) So I've had a lot to think about--and hopefully much good comes from it. We'll see.
