Sleeping Mommy

So yesterday Ellie was at school and I had finished the dishes and cleaning the kitchen so I sat down to read a book.  I was having a hard time keeping my eyes opened, saw it was 1:45 and figured I could set the alarm on my phone to wake me up at 2:00 to take a cat nap and give me enough time to get Ellie from school at 2:15.  Next thing I know?  Knock Knock Knock.  Jodi (my friend) is knocking on my door on her way home from picking up the kids at 2:30 and is letting me know Ellie is down at the school and they've been trying to call me and find me and she tried to bring Ellie home but they wouldn't let her, etc.  Ahhhh!  I look at my phone.  It's dead!  Are you kidding me?  All week long the only time my phone decides to die is the 15 minutes of my catnap before it was supposed to have the alarm go off to wake me up?  I run down to the school and there Ellie is just happy as a clam surrounded by teachers, admins, adults, etc.  I was worried she would be freaking because she always tells me, "Mommy do NOT forget me after school.  I want you to be there for me when I get out, okay?"  And I have to promise on my life not to forget her.  Anyways, the school thought I was in a car wreck or something and had called Darik to come and get Ellie.  So I had to wait for him to show up.  The best thing about the whole ordeal is I got a few minutes alone to visit with Mrs. Marley about how Ellie is doing.  She said she is so proud of Ellie.  That she had written all by herself "I like Daddy.  I like mommy.  I like the beach." And then she drew a picture of the beach.  Ellie was supposed to move on to another activity but she let her stay at the table and finish.  I reminded her how before school started I'd warned her about how Ellie operates on "Ellie Time" and she just laughed and said she'd forgotten about that.  And that Elle is definitely a SLOW worker.  Anyways, just another day in the life, eh?

  1. Oh no! I can't believe that! It is truly hilarious, but I am sure was quite stressful at the time! I'm glad it all worked out!

BTW Jake informed us that the plan when we get to Idaho is to go to Ellie's house first, and then to Nanas and then to Chelsey's! He is too funny
