Strong

We were at the VT v. BYU bball game wednesday night. I went with Ellie and we had a great time. One time while the band was playing she climbed up to the row behind us (it was empty, our seats are in nosebleed) and started dancing. I was watching the game and all of a sudden she climbs back to her seat and says, "I was dancing and slipped and almost fell and hit my face on the chair!"

I grabbed her cute little face and babied her and said, "Awww, are you ok?"

She pushed my hands away and said, "Mom! I'm fine! Don't act like that! That's how teenagers with kids act. You are not a teenager with kids!! You are a strong woman!!!"

In that moment I was reeling from being so reprimanded - but at that last comment, I just had to smile. Yes, Ellie-girl, you are right. Mommy doesn't need to baby you, she is a strong woman. She can handle you growing up (I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, etc.).

The next day I was telling Darik and as his jaw dropped to the floor Ellie walked by. I asked her - "Are you a strong woman, too?"

"No," she says, "I am a strong little girl."

My job is done here, folks. :-) I wish!

p.s. BYU won!

  1. One of my strongest desires as a mother is to raise my daughters to be strong women. I guess I need to start setting the example though! Maybe Ellie can come over and help train me! :)

  2. I don't know how, but I was finally able to read your blog for the first time! You're awesome Kristine(even if you are a little wimpy)! You seem to be doing very well and your family takes some cute pictures. Just know I was thinking about you and hope you are as happy as can be!

  3. You are a strong woman. Good for Ellie to remind you. :) Now can you come over & teach me? (I need some lessons on parenting a strong-willed daughter-turned teenager with attitude. At least some days, it feels like that.)

Love your family. And you. I was smiling at your header picture because Libbie has the same gap as Ellie. More and more, little toothy gaps are making me smile.
